Gauri, Neha to contest final

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, SEPT 23: Gauri Narayan of RA Podar came back from the brink to make it to the girls' final of the junior inter-collegiate badminton tournament at the University Pavilion today.

Narayan, in her second year of junior college, set up a repeat of last year's final where she lost to Neha Gangoli of HR Commerce. Gangoli was a relatively easier 11-0, 11-4 winner over Prajukta N of Bhavan's, Andheri, today.

Narayan was trailing 1-6, 8-10 in the decider and faced match point. However, a smash out of Anuj Wadke's (ML Dahanukar) reach, gave her the point. From thereon, the state sub-junior champion won five consecutive points to finish the match 9-11, 11-3, 13-11.

The men's final will be contested between Mithibai college-mates Rahul Tipnis and Vinayak Puthran. Tipnis beat Deepak Jaitley (Jaihind), playing his third match of the day, 15-7, 8-15, 15-6 while Puthran won 16-17, 15-6, 15-3 after a listless first game.

Ruparel were the first team to enter the semi-finals with a straight win over Hinduja. However, violating University rules, no staff member of any college was present for the team championships.
