The final produced an expected result, with national Manisha Khaprekar calling the shots. Earlier, Podar qualified for the final with a slender 28-27 win over holders Xavier's. Podar trailed by over 10 points at one stage, but clawed back, as opponents Xavier's muffed a few shots, to win. It would be unkind not to give Barrister Babasaheb Khardekar College, Vengurla, a mention here. Situated near the Goa border, but surprisingly affiliated to Mumbai University, the college did not grudge the 600 km travel to participate in the tournament. Commendable, when teams from within the city shy away from participating. BK finished fourth there were just five teams in the draw.

MITHIBAI swept the honours, bagging the boys and girls team titles, in the Junior College Sports Association inter-college swimming tournament held at PM Hindu Bath here yesterday Mithibai pipped VG Vaze, Mulund by two points to claim the boys title, while their girls, propelled by Mansi Dali, relegated NM to second place.
