NEW DELHI, Sept 26: Senior Congress leader Jitendra Prasada, who was removed as party vice-president earlier this year, was today appointed chairman of the All India Congress Committee relief committee.The appointment was made by party president Sonia Gandhi as the AICC decided to mobilise material and financial support for flood victims in various parts of the country.
Party general secretary Oscar Fernandes told reporters that the mobilisation drive would begin in Delhi tomorrow, under which party workers would go from door to door. This would be followed by similar exercises in various other states.
Gandhi, during restructuring of the All India Congress Committee soon after becoming the party chief early this year, had abolished the post of vice-president held by Prasada.
