VMC to survey garba sites

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Sept 29: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has undertaken a survey of different garba sites in the city, where organisers have dug poles or put up banners and hoardings without permission.

Talking to Express Newsline, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) H S Patel said defaulters would be fined once the survey was completed. He said he had come across four to five garba sites where banners and hoardings were put up without permission.

The VMC had a few days ago removed four banners of Tulsi brand from a garba site. The garba organisers had not taken permission to put up the banners. Besides, the VMC has banned putting up pan masala and gutka hoardings.

CAGES TO BE REPAIRED: THE VMC plans to repairs few cages of the Sayajibaug Zoo. Deputy Municipal Commissioner (General) I B Peerzada, who visited the zoo, in connection with an inquiry, said the engineering wing was asked to survey the cages. The inquiry was instituted following death of a baby blackbuck and theft of Chinkara a few months ago. While the estimates to repair the cages will be finalised soon, Peerzada said it would take time to renovate cages in which animals like lions were kept.

According to him, the distance between visitors and the animals in the cages was too less and the cages needed to be made bigger. Peerzada said even the cages' height would be raised so that people could not enter the enclosure. Some unidentified people had stolen the Chinkara by climbing the wired fence. He said instructions had also been issued to zoo curator Vijayraj Jadeja to improve the functioning.

Felicitation: The Vadodara chapter of the Gujarat Senior Citizens' Federation will felicitate Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) H S Patel, Parks and Gardens Director Mohanbhai Patel and former councillor Fatehsinh Rana on October 1. The programme is being held to mark the World Elders' Day. According to a statement, while the programme will be held at the Vasvik Hall at 5 pm, former mayors Nanalal Chokshi, Dr Thakorebhai Patel, Dr V C Patel and Ratilal Desai will deliver lectures on the past, present and future of Vadodara.
