VADODARA, Sept 29: Having taken a serious notice of the grave occupational health hazards and ill-effects of chemicals and obnoxious gases caused to workers in Hema Chemical Industries in Vadodara, the district collector has ordered the Factory Inspectorate officials to immediately check the complaints of pollution affecting employees of the factory.Collector Anil Mukim told Express Newsline that this he has done following receipt of several complaints in this context. ``I have asked the Factory Inspector and the labour department authorities to immediately look into the matter and take the necessary preventive and corrective measures against the company, if found guilty,'' he said.
It may be recalled that Express Newsline had published a detailed report on the alarming situation at the company in question, exposing lethargy of the officials and the extent of physical damage thus caused to workers at the company, in recent past. The news had details and photographs of workers with nasal septum perforation employed in the two units of the industry.
Meanwhile, activists of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and other human rights fora have taken up the issue of several workers of the company in question and brought the same to the knowledge of several official agencies and sought immediate arrest of the managers of the chemical industry.
