VADODARA, Oct 1: A large number of Bengalis thronged the Kirti Mandir on Thursday to celebrate Saradotsava or Durga Puja, as commonly known. The celebration concluded with immersion of idols of Goddess Durga in Sursagar and a number of religious functions held with much fervour.While Banga Sanskriti Sangha organised an elaborate function at the Kirti Mandir, other cultural and social organisations also held separate functions in their respective areas such as ONGC colony, Nizampura, among others. The day began with special worships, `aarti', pushpanjali, and `sindur daan' in front of Goddess Durga, Saraswati, Laxmi and Lord Kartik and Ganesha, followed by processions to immerse the idols at nearby ponds and rivers.
Bengalis thronged the Mandir right from early morning to participate in the Maha Dashami Puja, ``darpan bisarjan,' ``dadhi karma'' and ``sindur utsava'' while immersion procession began around 5 pm followed by Bijaya Sammelan. Earlier this week, the Sangha had organised Maha Panchami, Maha Shasthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami and Maha Navami which included a variety of impressive devotional music and dance recitals.
