When Vajpayee talks India to the world
What have been the gains from Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's visit to New York and Paris? Personally, for the Prime Minister, the visit must be an enormous morale booster. Unencumbered by cares such as Jayalalitha, he regained his oratorical skills.

Skipping New Delhi
It is official now -- sort of. Bill Clinton is not to visit India and Pakistan in November after all. The reason is the lack of sufficient progress in the nuclear talks between New Delhi and Washington and Islamabad and Washington.

Time to wield the broom
The law is an ass -- and sometimes a very old ass at that. The Indian statute books are replete with prohibitions and prescriptions of every description which have long lost any relevance they may once have had to the lives of the country's citizens.
