PUNE, Oct 2: The RSS ``Vijayadashami sanchalan'' in Shivajinagar was cancelled on Thursday owing to the death by accident of a volunteer.36-year-old Macchindra Bhikaji Ghodke from Joshi Aali was heading for the ``Vijayadashami sanchalan'' of the RSS around 6.15 am when when his scooter came under the wheels of a state transport bus after a Tata Sumo dashed his vehicle at Shimla Office Chowk in Shivajinagar early on Thursday morning.
sanchalans in other parts of the city too were subdued due to the death.
The mishap took place around a few minutes after Ghodke and some friends reached the Shri Shivaji Preparatory Military School to garland the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. They were proceeding toward the Bharat English School located near the ST bus terminus at Shivajinagar when accident happened.
The Tata Sumo driver Uttareshwar Narayan Jadhav (25) of Thergaon has been arrested by the Deccan Gymkhana police. Ghodke, an active BJP worker and an RSS volunteer since a child, was a memberof the rescue teams sent to Killari and Latur areas to assist rehabilitation of earthquake affected. He later adopted Lalit -- a quake affected child.
Ghodke, who worked as a teacher in the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Aundh, is survived by mother Kalavati (75), two married brothers, wife Rohini and five-year-old son Lalit.
