Tractors rout WR

Mahindra Tractors defeated Western Railway 3-0 in the Gulf Oil WIFA Senior Division football league at the Cooperage, today.

Gulf Oil Sports Club were held to a 1-1 draw by Catholic Gymkhanna in the First Division League. Agnelo Fernandes scored for Gulf Oil and Walter Pinto did likewise for Catholic Gymkhana.

In yet another tie, a lone goal by Alex Coates turned out to be the match-winner for Navi Mumbai against Sachivalaya Gymkhana in the First Division match.

Ankur bags double (mug shot can be taken. Done.)

The golden boy of ONGC, Ankur Mahajan, bagged a double crown in the Rupee Bank Maharashtra State Open Ranking table tennis tournament held at the Suwarna Samridi Hall, Pune.

Senior boys (final):

Ankur Mahajan bt Pranab Kuber (Pune) 21-12, 21-10, 21-19. Semi-finals:

Ankur Mahajan bt Nachiket Joshi (Pune) 18-21, 19-21, 21-12, 21-19, 21-16; Pranab Kuber (Pune) bt Rahul Joshi (Pune) 21-9, 21-11, 21-11.

Sub-junior boys (final):

Anand Nagerkati (Pune) won at 21-6, 21-10, 21-13.

Junior girls (final):

Mallika Parekh bt Janvi Deshpande 21-14, 21-16, 21-6. Semi-finals:

Mallika Parekh bt Chandini 19-21, 21-14, 21-18, 23-21; Janvi Deshpande bt Mansi Bhagwat 21-17, 20-22, 24-22, 21-17.

Harish supreme

Harish Narayanan of Ruia College won the under-21 rapid chess championship conducted by Gokuldham Chess Club at Bhavan's College today. In the final round Harish beat L Jerome of Bhavan's in 26 moves scoring 6.5 out of a possible seven points.

1. Harish Narayanan (6.5 pts) won by toss; 2 D Ravi Shankar (6.5); V Kartik (5.5); 4 Ajit Nair (5.5); 5 Janvian Rodrigues (5)
