HARARE, OCT 3: India were in a commanding position at stumps on the second day of their three-day game against the Zimbabwe Board President's XI after declaring their first innings close at 400 for five, for a lead of 244, and reducing the hosts to 106 for five in their second knock.D Viljeon (21) and Craig Gurr (5) were batting at close of play.
Earlier, Anil Kumble, who yesterday took the bowling honours claiming 5 for 35, contributed his mite with the bat today scoring a fine 100 and establishing an unbroken 160-run stand with wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia for the sixth-wicket when skipper Ajay Jadeja applied the closure, 97 minutes after lunch.
Kumble's (100) came in 142 minutes off 126 balls including nine fours and one six. Mongia remained unbeaten on 70 with 10 boundaries.
Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar came out to bat only in the second over of the day when hard-working Bryan Strang induced overnight not out Jadeja (61) to spoon a catch to lone slip skipper Trevor Penny.
Tendulkar indulged in someexhilarating strokeplay. He started with smashing cover drives off Angus McKay. Left-arm spinner Raymond Price and Strang were also belted mercilessly as an anguished Penny shuffled his bowling in vain.
