Indian Airlines technician killed in freak mishap

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
MUMBAI, Oct 3: In a freak accident, a technician of Indian Airlines was killed at Mumbai airport late last night when the ``wheel door closed on him after it was activated from the cockpit.''

Airport officials said the 31-year-old technician, Sunil Kadam was carrying out a check of the nose wheel section of the IA A300 aircraft, which had arrived from Calcutta, on bay No. 16 when the mishap occurred. Kadam, who suffered extensive injuries, was rushed to Holy Spirit hospital in Andheri, north west Mumbai, where he was declared dead.

While the Director General of Civil Aviation is carrying out an inquiry into the incident, the airport police, who have seized the aircraft, are also conducting investigations into the death. The airline has also set up a committee to probe the mishap, sources said.
