Six die in TN police firing, clashesMADURAI: Four persons were killed in the riot-torn Ramanathapuram district today, one in the clash and three in the police firing that was resorted to quell the clash between two warring communities at Soorankottai, taking the toll to six since last night. Seven persons have been admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital with serious injuries. Of them the condition of five is said to be critical.

NAGPUR: A magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the police firing, that killed two Shiv Sena activists and injured 75 others, in Andhalgaon village near Bhandara district yesterday, by district Guardian Minister Mahadeo Shivankar.
Petro pumps stir
BANGALORE: Petrol dealers have decided to close petrol pumps nationwide on October 8 to pressure oil companies to pay commission which they said was due to them following increase in petrol and diesel prices in July 1996.
