Vehicle thefts
In three separate cases of vehicle theft registered by the police on Sunday, two scooters and an autorickshaw were stolen from various parts of the city on Saturday. According to the police, while a scooter (GJ 6 EE 6308) worth Rs 30,000 was stolen from Sayajigunj, another scooter (GJ 6 DD 5666) worth Rs 30,000 was stolen from parking lot of Deep Chambers. An autorickshaw (GTK 736) worth Rs 7,000 was stolen by unidentified people from Central ST depot, the police said. Investigations are on.

Liquor seized
The police seized 217 litres of country liquor worth Rs 4,340 during raids conducted at various places in the city during the last 24 hours and booked 30 cases under the Prohibition Act.

Electrocuted
Surat: Ne Mangubhai Maganbhai Vasava, a 42-year-old labourer was electrocuted when he accidentally came in contact with a live electric wire in a field at Hemad village on the outskirts of the city on Saturday evening, the Kapodara police said. Vasava was working in the field at around 7 pm when the accident occurred and died on the spot the police added. A case of accidental death under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has been filed in the Kapodara police station.

Vehicles stolen
Two vehicles, a Maruti van and a Hero Honda motorcycle, were reported stolen in separate incidents of vehicle theft registered in city police stations during the past 24 hours. Rajesh Lathi, the owner of a Maruti van (GJ 5 A 4408) complained to the Salabatpura police that his van was stolen from behind the Sagar Market on Ring Road. In another case registered at the Salabatpura police station, a Hero Honda motorcycle (GJ 5 JJ 5275) belonging to Tulsi Navadia was also stolen from opposite Sahyog Chambers where it was parked. The police have registered cases under IPC 379.
