Cops get new clues in abduction racket

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, OCT 6: Following the exposure of a country wide kidnapping racket allegedly controlled by Irfan Goga, an aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, the Gujarat police have found some vital clues in abduction case of a well-known industrialist of Ahmedabad in January last.

The industrialist, who owns an export house, was abducted when he was going to his farmhouse on the outskirts of the city. All attempts to trace him failed. But he surfaced a few days later -- safe and sound. Both he and the police remained tight-lipped about the abductors' identity saying that this would risk the industrialist's life.

Police sources, however, say the involvement of Goga could not be ruled out in this case as the Kutch police have some significant records of conversation between the kidnappers and their contacts in Lucknow and Mumbai. Payment of a ransom of Rs five crore for the release of the industrialist has also been confirmed.

The police are also linking some more kidnapping cases and kidnapping attempts bythe miscreants in different cities. A sensational case has come to light from Hubli (Dharwad) in Karnataka where some miscreants tried to kidnap a tile manufacturer and failed several times. Police have arrested three persons in this connection and are trying to confirm involvement of Nasir Ahmed Mohammed, Goga's close aide Sabina Praveena, Sayyed Nuriddin, Anis Ahmed and Raja alias Fazlu in the case.

A senior police officer in Bangalore said that police suspected links of these persons with Dubai-based ganglords. It was Anis, as sources said, who came out as a dubious character in the whole episode. Police said that Anis had arrived in Bhuj from Mumbai and his presence was confirmed from a railway ticket now in possession of Kutch police.

Moreover, role of Sabina alias Archana Sharma alias Mahak Oberoi was also suspected as Indore police are searching her for the kidnapping of an oil merchant, Jagdish Ramani in April. Police said that Sabina had been identified in this case as Archana Sharma and policehave confirmed her links with Irfan Goga.

Police are also tracing her contacts with Lucknow underworld and one Kamal Sharma whose car and mobile phone was recovered by Kutch police on September 6. Sources said that top Uttar Pradesh and Delhi police officials have started probing into the racket. After sending all the suspected telephone numbers, the Kutch police are awaiting a feedback from Mumbai, Delhi and Darbhanga police to reach any conclusion.
