Four held in murder case
The Gujarat Railway Police have claimed to have solved the case of the murder of Kiritbhai Bhatt, 50, a proofreader with Loksatta, the Gujarati daily of The Indian Express Group, who was looted and stabbed to death at Anand railway station platform early on September 28.

GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police B K Tiwari and sub-inspector N M Rathod said Ashok Ramgopal Gupta, Ramesh Hira Burkhi, Ramesh Magan Parmar and Shagir A Vora, all listed criminals had been arrested in this connection on Tuesday.

An official spokesman said that they had spotted Bhatt on his own at the station, attempted to loot him, and when he protested, stabbed him.

Excise stir
The strike by superintendents and inspectors of the Central Excise and Customs commissionerate in Vadodara and Rajkot entered the second day on Tuesday. Senior office-holders, while claiming that work at the two commissionerates was badly affected, complained that the concerned authorities were unsympathetic towards their demands.

Paper in Hindi
The objective paper of the Banking Service Recruitment, Vadodara, for clerical cadre can now be answered in Hindi as well as English. Accordingly, the objective written test scheduled for October 11 for clerical cadre can be answered in either English or Hindi, an official statement said.

NCC camps
About 400 Naval NCC cadets, including 65 girls, are participating in a 12-day Nausainik camp, which began from Tuesday at Sangma village, near Padra. While the second camp will be held from October 22 and November 2, a statement said cadets would be trained in boat pulling and sailing. Also 25 boys and 10 girls would be selected to represent the state at the national camp, scheduled to be held in Visakhapatnam in November.

Function today
A programme for the elderly will be organised by students of the Faculty of Social Work, MSU, on Wednesday. The programme, organised under the UGC-DRS programme in the faculty lounge, will be based on the research of a few students.
