AHMEDABAD, Oct 6: Thirty-two people, including 13 children and 12 women, of the Raipur area were admitted to the L.G. Hospital late on Monday night after they consumed ladoos made of Mava.Standing committee chairman Dharmendra Shah said he learnt of the incident about 10 p.m. and informed the resident medical officer at the hospital, Dharmila Shah, of it. But he said that when he went to the hospital about 11:30 p.m. the RMO or the deputy superintendent Nimesh Pandya were absent. He said that neither deputy municipal commissioner Pinakin Dixit nor medical health officer P.K. Makwana were informed of the incident.
The committee chairman said the condition of those admitted was reported to be under control and all the patients were discharged by five in the evening on Tuesday. Only three patients were receiving treatment and were reported to be out of danger.
He said that Rajaram Kalidas had purchased Mava to prepare Ladoos for the rituals from one Sharma Mavawala shop outside Raipur Darwaja. Later 32 patients including 11 members of his family suffered from diarrhoea.
Annoyed by what he alleges are administrative lapses, the standing committee chairman has asked Dixit to take action against the RMO and other staff who were on duty. Dixit said that the administration will issue a show cause notice to RMO Shah and ask for an explanation.
Sources pointed out that baffled by the incident and also keeping in view the forthcoming Diwali festival, the health department will inspect sweetmeat stores and send samples for testing. Besides, the department on Tuesday sealed the Sharma Mavawala and destroyed 44 kg of Mava.
