GURGAON, October 6: The Haryana government has initiated a probe into the allegations of irregularities and misuse of power against Dharamvir Yadav, former Public Works Minister. The state CID has been entrusted with the task of preparing a detailed report.Highly-placed sources said that the CID officials are inquiring into the allegations that the sarpanch of Kanhai village leased shamlat land to a private company at the behest of Dharmvir. The government has also sought a report on the violations at Dharamvir's sprawling farmhouse at Kanhai.
The Town and Country Planning Department (TCPD) had served a show cause notice to Dharamvir under the Punjab Scheduled Roads and Controlled Area (Restriction of Unregulated Development) Act, 1983, and Amended Act No. 7 of 1989, and restrained him from further carrying out any construction activity at his farmhouse. But the former PWD minister, in his reply to the TCPD, had said that he was not the owner of the land in question. The DTP (Enforcement) had then issued a fresh notice in the name of the owners of the land -- Dharamvir's wife and his two brothers.
The notice was served, TCPD officials said, because Yadav's family had erected a structure on about five acres of land falling within the controlled area without taking permission from the Director, Town and Country Planning. The officials said that the structure can be demolished and a criminal case can be registered against the violators. The investigating agency is also working on the complaints submitted by the residents of Kanhai village against Yadav. They say he misused official position to protect his interests and committed irregularities with regards to the village land. Yadav has, however, vehemently denied the allegations.
These investigations are a fall-out of the rebellions stance taken by Yadav and his scathing verbal attack on Chief Minister Bansi Lal which ultimately led to his ouster from the cabinet.
``Since then the state government has been tightening the noose around the rebel legislator and this probe could be the last straw,'' a senior official said.
