Arun Singh sparkles
Deadly bowling by medium pacer Arun Singh (3 for 28), fine knock by Devender Sharma (50) and an unbeaten 45 by Mithun Manhas helped Sonnet beat Youngsters by six wickets and reach the quarterfinal of JD Textiles tournament for MS Trophy at Yamuna Sports Complex.

Elected to bat first, Youngsters scored 161 for 8 in 40 overs. Naresh Kumar (53) and Deepak Joon (22) were the main scorers. Arun Singh and NS Negi (2 for 34) were the successful bowlers. Sonnet scored 162 for four in 37.5 overs. Devender Sharma and Mithun Manhas contributed 77 runs for the third wicket. Sudhir Giri scored a breezy 31. Devender Chaudhary of Youngsters was the main wicket-taker (2 for 30).

Lamba tourney
The first Raman Lamba memorial (under-16) cricket tournament, organised by LB Shartri Cricket Club, will be held from October 9 at Bharat Nagar sports complex. It will be a league-cum-knockout tournament. The eight participating teams will be divided in two pools and the two top teams from each pool will enter the semifinals. The teams are: LB Shastri, NSCC, South Delhi Coaching Centre and Raman Lamba XI in pool A; Sonnet, RR Gymkhana, Chand Khanna and Saviour Academy in pool B.

The inaugural match will be played between LB Shastri and Raman Lamba XI.

Sumeet, Ankit shine
An Unbeaten knock by Sumeet Patyal (91 n.o, 11x4, 2x6) and Ankit's 87 helped Springdales School (Dhaula Kuan) crush JD Tytler School by 100 runs in the Radha Kishan memorial tournament.

Deadly bowling by Springdales' Aman Khan (2 for 21) and Surya (2 for 4) helped the team bundle out JD Tytler for 114 in 18.2 overs. Mukul (47) and Mridual Mehra (27) were the main scorers.

Brief Scores: Springdales: 214 for 2 in 25 overs (Sumeet Patyal 91 n.o, Ankit 87) bt JD Tytler: 114 in 18.2 overs (Mukul 47, Mridual Mehra 27, Aman Khan 2 for 21, Surya 2 for 4).

Kothari team wins
Dr Kothari's team claimed the Delhi State Bridge Trophy beating Dr Mehta's team by nine international match points (IMP) in the 24-board final late last night.Dr Kothari's team comprising Dr. Usha Thakur Kothari, Inder Pal Singh, N K Gupta, Puneet Fangal, Vinod Sharma and S K Sinha, were trailing by 24 IMP after the first sesion of the two-session final, but a splendid recovery saw them emerge winners.

In the semifinals, Dr Kothari scored a narrow four IMP win over Sonchel.

Dr Mehta's team, comprising Dr Ashwani Mehta, Subhash Gupta, Sudhir Aggarwal, Sunil Bhatia, Sartaj and Anil Rattan had an easy passage into the final beating R K Gupta's team by 41 IMP in the 20-board semifinal.In the pairs final, Puneet Gangal and Sudhir Aggarwal were the clear winners scoring 127 match points while R. Chakravorty and S. Majumdar were second with 115 match points.

Big win for DDM
District Development Ministry defeated DAV Brij Vihar 4-0 to enter the semifinal of the seventh All India Rajiv Gandhi football tournament for the M L Garg Trophy at Ghaziabad. The winners led 2-0 at the interval. Arvind Rawat and Mahendra Kumar scored a goal each in the first half while Pradeep Kumar and Ram Singh increased the lead in the second to complete the tally.
