Vajpayee buys Akalis peace with package and panel
The BJP yesterday bought its way out of its current troubles with the Akali Dal by offering a package for Punjab consisting of a loan waiver to farmers, compensation to the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and a fertiliser plant in Bhatinda.

Advisor to the finance minister, Mohan Guruswamy, has come up with a new angle to the 224-point crash in the Sensex on Monday. According to him, a foreign mutual fund had sold stocks to the extent of Rs 100 crore, which could have triggered the fall.
