MUMBAI, Oct 10: Two separate incidents of snapping of overhead wires severely disrupted Western and Central Railway trains, severely inconveniencing commuters on Saturday evening.An overhead wire on the down track of CR's harbour line between Mankhurd and Vashi snapped at around 4.20 pm. The fault was rectified by 6.40 pm.A bunching of trains which resulted due to the disruption was normalised only half an hour after services were restored. In the meantime, thousands of CR commuters were stranded in trains.
In the second incident, the overhead wire of a Western Railway long distance local snapped between Nalla Sopara and Virar at around 4.10 pm. Railway officials said the damage was caused due to thunder and lightning.
While the overhead wire was repaired by 6.15 pm, commuters were stranded till as late as 6.40 pm.
