CHANDIGARH, October 11: Efforts of revival of militancy in Punjab by Pakistan's ISI backed terrorists outfits suffered a setback with the arrest of one of the prime architects of terrorism in the state and pillar of the Panthic Committee, Gurnam Singh Bandala, in an operation, police said here today.Police said a huge quantity of arms and ammunition was also seized during the operation.
Top militant Bandala, known as ``Neelatara'' amongst terrorists circles, played the most prominent role in the aftermath of operation Blue Star by way of streamlining supplies of weapons and explosive material from across the border via Punjab and Rajasthan sectors, police said. With the arrest of Bandala, a deep rooted conspiracy to revive terrorism in the state through old pro-Taksal elements operating within the country and abroad had been neutralised, police said.
Bandala had contributed towards Punjab terrorism as a top ideologue federation leader, co-ordinator, spokesman of militant strategies supplier of weapons,fund-raiser and executioner of some of the most gruesome murders and massacres which the state witnessed in the 80's, police said.
