Cadet honours for Rohan, Juili

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, October 11: Rohan Chinchwadkar and Juili Inamdar claimed the cadet boys and girls table tennis titles respectively at the MIG Cricket Club State Ranking table tennis tournament today.

Fourth-seeded Chinchwadkar ended top-seeded Omkar Torgalkar's run of five successive titles, fighting back after losing the first game.

Juili, after reaching four finals earlier this season without success, beat Ruta Deshmukh in straight games for her first-ever State ranking title.Central Railway clinched the men's team championship with a 3-1 win over Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF), staving off an Aditya Mahagaonkar-sparked resurgence.

Down 0-2, the schoolboy started where he left on the previous day when he hauled RCF past BSES into the final with a thrilling victory in the third match.

But today, after rallying to beat Central Railway's James Joseph, RCF were forced to remain content with runners-up position after Nishant Kulkarni breezed past Mahendra Chiplunkar in straight games in the fourthmatch.Kulkarni and Gandeep Bhiwandkar gave the railwaymen a 2-0 lead with wins over Nilesh Pandirkar and Chiplunkar respectively.

Chinchwadkar learnt his lessons in a first-game loss. Despite the top seed's fine blocking, Chinchwadkar continued to be consistent to run away 14-21, 21-19, 21-16 victor. The 10-year-old student of Saraswati Education Society (English medium) High School clinched his second State Ranking success this season besides claiming the Masters PJ Hindu Gymkhana crown.
