AHMEDABAD, October 11: Spate of drop outs marked the eve of the first leg of the $5000 UN Mehta Indian ITF women's circuit tournament at the Ahmedabad Government Employees' Tennis Association courts here. The high absenteeism meant not only were the rescheduled qualifying rounds scrapped but the draw which was released today saw the top four players getting first round byes.Three of the six foreign players named in the main draw failed to turn up. The most conspicuous of them being the top ranked player Patty Murren, who was ranked 651th on the WTA ranking list. With Murren withdrawal, India's Archana Venkatraman ranked 660th automatically became the top ranked and thus the top seed player.
