Luthra, Kahlon in Indian team for Asiad

PUNE, October 11: With the Indian Golfing Union (IGU) selection procedure being totally transparent, with merit being the sole criteria, Amit Luthra, Harmeet Singh Kahlon, Amit Dube and Digvijay Singh were named as the four-man Indian squad for the forthcoming Bangkok Asian Games to be held in November.

Amit Luthra topped the selection trials with a (+22) aggregate, while Harmeet (+27), eventual winner Amit Dube (+27) and Digvijay Singh (+31), winner of the A.V Thomas Cup at Chennai and runners up at the Karnataka Golfing Amateurs Open in Bangalore, completed the foursome.

The team: Amit Luthra, Harmeet Singh Kahlon; Amit Dube, Digvijay Singh.

Coach: Laxman Singh.

Amit Dube wins title

PUNE: Amit Dube of Delhi bagged the Blue Diamond Open Amateur Golf championship at the Poona Club Golf Course here today. PS Guleria, also of Delhi, claimed the runner-up position.

Amit (ONGC) had a superb day and was two under par 69. He aggregated 295 to be thesole leader. On the final day, he secured four birdies in the 4th, 9th, 13th and 17th holes and in the process collected two bogies in the 3rd and 11th holes.

295: Amit Dube (Delhi) 75, 76, 75, 69; 296: PS Guleria (Delhi) 72, 75, 75, 74; Amit Luthra (Delhi) 72, 72, 74, 78; 297: Shreaz Kalra (Lucknow) 70, 75, 77, 76; Harmeet Kahlon (Chandigarh) 72, 75, 74, 76; 298: Jaideep Patwardhan (Pune) 78, 72, 76, 72.

Gurunath triumphs

CHENNAI: Up-and-coming amateur golfer B Gurunath Meiyappan found his winning ways to claim the Sportstar Trophy with a clear lead of two strokes at the Guindy Race Course golf links here.

Surya Kumar won the Stableford Trophy. The team title was won by Viju Mahtaney and Surya Kumar who totalled 282. Vanjinath, N Shanmugam and Sivaraman (289) and S Radhakrishnan, Dinesh Hemdev and Srikar Reddy (294) finished second and third respectively.

In the open event, R Vijayaraghavan (15 handicap) finished first with a nett of 135, followed by AdityaChitaranajan (141) and N Shanmugam (141) for the second and third spots.
