MUMBAI, Oct 11: The Maharashtra State Electricity Board Power Front, a conglomeration of 22 unions comprising employees of the electricity board, has called off its proposed indefinite strike from October 12 after talks with Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde.The front's office bearers met Munde, who also holds the energy portfolio, on Saturday. Munde has promised to fulfil their demands within a week after deliberations are held between the MSEB chairperson and front members.
Earlier, certain unions in the MSEB had asked Munde not to call the Power Front, led by Sharad Rao, for talks, front convenor Nachiket More told Express Newsline. However, Gopinath Munde has reportedly told the front members that their demands will be given a favourable hearing.
The front has demanded jobs for deceased and retired MSEB employees, pension benefits, Diwali bonus and ex-gratia payment. The front has also opposed privatisation of the electricity board.
