HVC ministers retain portfolios

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SHIMLA, Oct 11: While Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has relinquished charge of five departments, all other ministers will continue to hold their earlier portfolios.

All the newly inducted ministers were allocated portfolios by Governor V.S. Rama Devi today on the advise of the Chief Minister. Each one of them has been made minister of state with independent charge of a department.

Contrary to expectations, HVC Minister Mohinder Singh (a close associate of Sukh Ram) will continue to hold three most important departments of Public Works, Excise and Taxation and Rural Development. The portfolios of other two HVC ministers will also remain the same as before expansion.

Dhumal has given up revenue, ayurveda, youth services, sports and cooperation. He has retained general administration, finance, home, personnel, and power. He has not allocated tourism and science and technology departments to any minister which indicates that he has left scope for further expansion.

Roop Dass Kashyap, Chief Parliamentary Secretary (elevated to Minister of State), will have independent charge of Urban Development and Housing and would be attached with the Food and Supplies Minister for Social and Women Welfare Department.

Rukhi Ram Kaundal will hold independent charge of Cooperation and attached with the Chief Minister for Department of Election. Rajan Sushant will look after revenue department independently and attached to the Chief Minister for Law; Ravinder Singh Ravi has been assigned independent charge of technical education and attached with the Chief Minister for Power Department.

Parveen Sharma will hold independent charge of youth services, sports and attached to Mohinder Singh for PWD; Hari Narain Singh would look after Town and Country planning independently and attached to Industries Minister for Labour, Employment and Training. Kishan Lal Vaidya retains Industries, Labour, Employment and Fisheries.

J.P. Nadda retains Health and Parliamentary Affairs; Krishen Kapoor will remain Transport and Tribal Development Minister; Ramesh Chowdhery Irrigation and Public Health Minister; Mansa Ram -- Food, Supplies, Social and Women Welfare; Room Singh Thakur -- forest Minister; Vidya Sagar -- Agriculture Minister; and I.D. Dhiman remains Education Minister.
