Spat over free power for State farmers gets uglier
The Sena-BJP spat over the free power plan to farmers is now threatening to spill out into the open. Indirectly targeting Energy Minister Gopinath Munde, Sena chief Bal Thackeray and Chief Minister Manohar Joshi have attacked the "corrupt" ways of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB).

Belts tighten as costs rise, funds dwindle
With expenditure continuing to rise and tax collections doing very poorly, the Finance Ministry has written to all other Ministries and public sector units asking them to adhere to strict cost controls. It has asked, late last month, that all attempts be made to abolish vacant posts, that all non-salary expenses be reduced by 10%, and all seminars, conferences, workshops be postponed.

A day of intrigue & suspense in Delhi
High drama and intrigue marked the end of Sahib Singh Verma's two-and-a-half-year tenure as Chief Minister of Delhi on Sunday. While the man himself remained incommunicado, his supporters laid siege to the party headquarters .
