The 68th edition of The Times of India Cricket Challenge Shield gets under way from October 14 at various grounds of Mumbai.

The feature event of the tourney is the A Division.The A Division comprises eight teams divided into two groups. Group A features defending champions Tata Sports Club, Western Railway, Air-India and Elf-Lubricants while Sun-Grace Mafatlal Sports Club, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Central Railway form group B. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. While all the matches till the semi-final stage would be a three-day affair, the final would be a four-dayer.

Patkar to lead

Amit Patkar will lead the Chandu Borde XI in the u-16 Shatkar Trophy Cricket Tournament. The selection trials of the team from Vasai region was held at the Wankhede Stadium this afternoon. The other three teams will be selected after the trials on October 16 & 17. The u-16 tournament forms the basis ofselecting the Mumbai team.

The Borde XI released by the Mumbai Cricket Association today is as follows: Amit Patkar (captain), Navodit Gujar (vice-captain), Nirnay More, Vaibhav Sane, Swapnil Patil (wicket-keeper), Atish Walinjkar, Kuldip Choudhary, Amol Jadhav, Sanjay Mhadalkar, Amir Khan, Charanjit Singh, Amol Torvi, Govind Pillay, Karan Kadam and Vijay Dharmamehr (wicket-keeper).

Mini squash

Entries for the Little Masters Junior Indian Open squash tournament, sponsored by WMI Cranes, will be accepted till October 14 and should be addressed to the Secretary-general, Squash Rackets Federation of India, third floor, Dhun building (north wing) 827, Anna Salai, Chennai 600 002 (phone 855 0254, fax 852 0717).
