NEW DELHI, October 14: Centre-forward Poonam slammed six goals, including a hat-trick, to help Government High School, Patna thrash Rani Parvati School, Sawantwadi (Maharashtra) 12-0 to storm into the quarterfinals of the fifth Nehru girls hockey tournament at National Stadium here today. Arya High School, Sonepat (Haryana) overpowered Durtland T G School (Mizoram) 4-2 to book their place in the last eight.Apart from Sunita's six goals, other scorers for the Patna school were Sunita (2), Smita Kumari and Sweta Kumari. Despite this crushing defeat, Rani Parvati School also qualified for the quarterfinals as they finished second in the pool.
In pool `D', Arya School defeated Durtland School 4-2 after being locked 1-1 at the breather. Poonam Antil put Arya School ahead in the 13th minute, Liansangpuii drew parity in the 23rd minute.
After the breather, Laldingliani gave Mizoram school the lead with a fine goal in the 32nd minute. The Arya school had to struggle for next 14 minutes for the equaliser which was scored by Meena in the 46th minute. In the 54th minute, Devaki converted a stroke to make it 3-2 for Arya school and three minutes later Neelam scored the fourth goal to complete the tally for the winners.
Airlines beaten: Shahdara Heroes scored a 3-1 win over the Indian Airlines in the B K Gautam memorial hockey tournament. Rakesh Bali, Pawan Kumar and Rajesh Kumar scored for the winners while Airlines' lone goal came through Sanjeev Dar. In another match, Khalsa Blue beat Delhi Audit 2-1. Amarbeer and Gurpreet scored for the winners while Sanjay got a goal for Audit.
