October 15: Fashion designers have admitted to Rs 1.08 crore of undisclosed income following raids on their premises by the Income Tax department in a nationwide operation on Wednesday.Sources in the Investigation wing of the IT, Mumbai, said one of the biggest catch was a Dehli-based designer who was currently out of the country. A large quantity of documents were recovered from her premises and the success of the raid would be quantified only after her return. Cash to the tune of Rs 24 lakh was seized, of which Rs 15 lakh belongs to one designer.
While 17 bank lockers have been sealed, several properties have been put under prohibitory orders. A sizeable number of officers who were part of the search parties were still occupied with tallying of the documents brought under scrutiny. Several of them who had put in almost 30 hours of uninterrupted work on Wednesday and Thursday, had left their offices early today.
The list of designers who were raided include Ritu Kumar, Anna Singh, Abu Jani, SandeepKhosla, Hemant Trivedi, Poonam Soni, Manish Malhotra and Krishna Mehta.
