Ashok and Irina keep lead

CHANDIGARH, Oct 15: Ashok Kumar of Delhi further enhanced his chances of winning the boys under-18 category title in the IGU-catgorised St Xavier's Northern India Junior and Sub-Junior Golf Tournament being conducted by Chandigarh Golf Club at its sprawling course here today. Going from strenghth to strength, Ashok carded one over par 73 after 80 on the first day and 75 on the second day, to aggregate 228.

He is well ahead of his nearest rival Shiv Kapoor (80, 79, 774 = 233) by five strokes. Sandy Lehl and Raghav Jaggi were tied for the third place with an identical total of 236. One stroke behind them was Vinod Kumar (237).

Overnight leader Prince SS Dhillon (255) was pushed to second spot by Chiragh Kumar (254). Dhillon had a disappointing day today as he played 14 over par round 86 while Chiragh carded eight over par 80. Mohd Waxzir was at the third place with 259.

Irina Brar and Guneet Raikhy fought a keen battle on the second day of the competitions for girls in the under-18 category. Irina (82) beat Guneet (83) by just one stroke. Irina continued to lead with a total of 166 while Guneet was at the second spot with 171. Guneet had carded 84 on the first day. One stroke behind Guneet was Jasmeet Sawhney (172).
