W'lifting team
CALCUTTA: The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) announced a seven-member team for the forthcoming Asian Games to be held in Bangkok in December.
The team was selected on the basis of performance in the recently-held selection trials in Patiala and comprised five women and two men.
Theteams: Women: N Kunjarani (48 kg), Sanamacha Chanu (53 kg), Pratima Kumari (58 kg), K Malleswari (63 kg), Ujwala Mane (75 kg). Coaches P S Sandhu and T Stochiev (Bulgarian).
Men: AK Pandian (56 kg), Satish Rai (77 kg). Coach: AK Sirohi. Manager: BR Gulati.
Cricketer dead
CHENNAI: Ram Ramesh, a former Tamil Nadu opener in Ranji Trophy, died of a massive heart attack in the early hours here on Tuesday. He was 56 and is survived by wife and two daughters. He had represented the state in 23 Ranji matches and had the distinction of scoring a century (108) on debut against Karnataka at Madras (now Chennai) in 1975-76.
