Mumbai, Oct 20: Leader of Opposition Chhagan Bhujbal has urged President K R Narayanan to conduct a high level inquiry into the resignation of Justice Y S Jahagirdar and Justice A S Sakhare of the Bombay High Court.``Commenting on the resignation of judges may attract a contempt of court. Thus I sincerely appeal Your Excellency to constitute an inquiry into the episode, which has been termed as a `big blow' to the judiciary by the legal luminaries,'' Bhujbal has said in the letter which he sent to the President today.
Bhujbal has also pointed out that ``Jahagirdar's resignation has come against the backdrop of ongoing hearing on a public interest litigation filed in the Bombay high court against the development of property in controversial manner by Girish Vyas, who incidentally is son in law of Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi.''
(The PIL contends that Vyas, who is a builder, got undue favours from the chief minister to get a plot of prime land in Pune meant for school deserved for commercialuse.)
The letter says that ``the Bench, during the past hearings, has indicated that the permission granted to the developer of the property was with a malafide intention and deserves demolition.
Justice Jahagirdar's sudden decision to resign especially when the next hearing of the case was fixed for November 4 has put a question mark in political, social and legal circles in the state.
What made Jahagirdar to quit before Novermber 4 is also a matter of detailed investigation...'' Bhujbal has sent the copies of his letters to the Chief Justice of India and Governor P C Alexander.
