MUMBAI, Oct 20: A visibly annoyed Justice Y S Jahagirdar today reacted very strongly to the media reports on his resignation. ``Neither was there any pressure on me nor was any politics involved with my resignation. I quit the job for purely personal and family reasons,'' he told The Indian Express. The low profile judge said it was unfortunate that his resignation has been given so much importance in the legal and political circles, despite the fact that it was his personal decision.
``My decision to resign the prestigious post has absolutely no connection with the on-going litigation against Chief Minister Manohar Joshi's son-in-law Girish Vyas. The conclusion drawn by a section of the media that I resigned owing to pressure from political or judicial circles, is baseless and false,'' he added.
Justice Jahagirdar said the public interest litigation challenging the dereservation of plot in Pune, was just another case before the Bench. ``So many public interest litigations are filed before theHigh Court and in all these cases, the state government is also a party,'' Justice Jahagirdar remarked.
He said during his 18 months tenure as a judge of the Bombay High Court, there was not even a single occasion that he was pressurised either by any political party or by any judicial official. ``I was happy with the task before me. However, for purely personal reasons, I had to quit the job,'' he said.
When asked if he resigned owing to the new transfer policy of the judges, he declined to comment, saying, he would not like to react on media reports on transfers. ``There is no need for me comment on such reports,'' he remarked. Justice Jahagirdar also refused to comment on the letter written by Chhagan Bhujbal to President K R Narayanan.
