5 injured in ceiling collapse

  • Five people were injured when a ceiling collapsed in a five-storeyed building in Nesbit Road, Mazgaon. The collapse occurred in the Development Credit Bank office in the ground floor of Mazgaon Terrace Building, at around 5 pm. The injured have been admitted to Prince Aga Khan Hospital, Mazgaon, fire brigade sources stated.

    Award for state NCC girl cadets

  • The Maharashtra National Cadet Corps girls contingent has set a record by winning all four trophies in the Basic Leadership Camp held at Delhi from October 8 to 13, 1998. In the first-aid and home nursing contest, junior under officers (JUOs) Sonali Surve and Mayal Manmeet Kaur were declared joint winners of the gold medal, while JUO Rama Singh won the silver. In the firing section for Junior Wing, Capt Mona Tiwari won gold, and JUO Pournima Gawhane and CSM Shabwany Kausar both won the gold in senior wing.

    Personality devt courses begin

  • The Bombay Adult Education Association'smonsoon term for beginners in professional and personality courses will begin on October 24, 1998. Dr M D Bengalee will conduct the course every Saturday from 2 pm to 4 pm. For details, contact the BAEA office at Cama Hall building, 4th floor, Opp Lion Gate, Shahid Bhagat Singh Road, Mumbai-400 023, or call on 2821047.

    Free toys for poor children

  • Old toys could be donated to poor children at a unique Samuhik Deepotsav celebration organised by MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha at the Banganga at Walkeshwar on October 25 from 7 pm onwards. According to a press note, the toys could either be brought to Banganga or be delivered at Lodha's Teenbatti office. Collected toys will be distributed to poor children during the programme.

    Thalassaemic kids to be feted

  • The Mumbai Thalassaemic Society has arranged a function to encourage and felicitate thalassaemic children at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Girgaum Chowpatty on October 25 at 10 am. The function will be followed by a cultural programme.
