SHIMLA, Oct 20: About 100 houses were damaged at various places in Kullu district due to a cloudburst on a mountain peak, 25 km from Kullu town, which caused flash floods and left behind a trail of destruction, reports reaching here today said.The cloudburst, which occurred on the night of October 16, also damaged 30 water supply schemes and 18 flow irrigation schemes, Kullu Deputy Commissioner R.D. Dhiman said.
Official sources said about 2,000 bighas of land, eight bridges and three to four km link roads were washed away due to flash floods. All nullahs between Kullu and Patlikuhal were flooded.
The Deputy Commissioner said the total loss has been estimated at around Rs 50 crore with Kullu sub-division accounting for Rs 30 crore, sub-division Rs 10 crore and Banjar and Manali sub-divisions Rs 5 crore each.
Kullu: Local MLA Chander Sen Thakur, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner R.D. Dhiman, Zila Parishad chairman Alam Chand and district BJP president Dinesh Bedi, visited the flood-hit areas of the valley adjoining Raison village on Kullu-Manali national highway, 13 km from here, yesterday.
At Raison, the MLA took stock of the devastation caused by the flash floods in Shirar Nullah, including damaged Raison-Shirar link road, damage caused to the houses at Kharotal locality on Raison Shirar link road. He also supervised the distribution of cash relief among the flood victims on behalf of the district administration.
While briefing ENS, Thakur revealed that a cash relief of Rs 2.5 lakh was distributed among the 21 flood victims of Raison area. The MLA disclosed that he has urged Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal to give maximum relief to the flood victims. He said that the district administration officers had also been directed to distribute relief among the flood victims with immediate effect.
