HOSHIARPUR, Oct 20: An animal-eaten body of an old man was today found hanging from a eucalyptus tree in a deserted area of Naushahra village of this district, police said.Hariana police station SHO Manjit Singh said the body was found hanging with a rope tied to the tree, indicating that the man, estimated to be a Sikh around 70 years of age, had committed suicide.
He said the condition of the body, eaten at some places, possibly by animals, indicated that the alleged suicide took place about a fortnight ago. The police official said nobody from among those called to the site could identify the body, which was handed over to the local municipal authorities for cremation after post-mortem in the local civil hospital.
The inquest formalities were completed by the police, he added.
Meanwhile, one Mesa Anand, 65, was run over and killed by a train near Jalandhar's PAP complex last night. It could not not be ascertained if it was a case of suicide or an accident.
Transporter booked for fraud
Ludhiana: The economic offences wing of district police has slapped criminal charges of fraud and cheating against a local transporter Harbans Singh Kohli, his wife Ravinder Kaur and two others for allegedly selling the company property without the knowledge of other directors.
Giving this information, Varinder Kumar,SP (HG) and in-charge of COW told that Paramjit Singh, another director of the company had lodged a complaint with the police that Kohli Managing directors of the company, in connivance with his wife, Sunder Singh and Satnam Singh had disposed of prime land belonging to the company Khalasa Nirbahi Transport Co,. Pvt. Ltd, to one Preet Builders for a consideration at Rs 2.30 crore and had already received Rs 1.09 crore in advance. The money which rightfully belonged to the company was not shown in the books of account or in the balance-sheet filed with registrar of companies.
A case under Section 409/420/467/471/120-B has been registered against the accused persons and further investigation was on progress.
