Daily passes for Lakshmi Road hawkers The Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) anti-encroachment department has issued daily passes to the unlicensed hawkers and vendors on the busy Lakshmi Road during Diwali on payment of Rs 100. Till date, the PMC has collected Rs 94,000 from the hawkers. The anti-encroachment department chief, Gautam Wagchaure, said the drive was launched on October 14 and will continue till October 22. The entire stretch of Lakshmi Road- especially the Belbaug Chowk, Mandai and Tulshibag areas are packed with vendors and hawkers selling their goods. They encroach on the road space which results in traffic snarls.Municipal Commissioner Rajiv Agarwal had issued orders allowing the collection of Rs 100 and a daily pass to these unlicensed hawkers, Wagchaure said. However, strict instructions have been issued to the anti-encroachment squad to evict those who failed to pay the amount, especially in the Tulshibag area.
