CHANDIGARH, Oct 22: The application seeking stay on sending the under-19 boys basketball team to Jalandhar for the National School Games has been declined by UT Civil Judge (Junior Division) Jasbir Singh. At the very onset, the counsel for the Director Public Instructions (Schools) and the Chandigarh Administration sought time for filing a reply to the suit challenging the team's selection.
Earlier, Neeraj Kumar Mehra had alleged that the trials held on October 15 were unfair as no referee had been deputed during the games. Moreover, five games among 35 candidates were played in less than 60 minutes even though each game takes more than an hour.
Terming the trials as "farce", he had added that the performance of the players was not assessed satisfactorily by the selection committee and the members were freely mingling with certain supporters. The case will now come up on October 27 for further hearing.
