CHANIGARH, Oct 22: Shivalik Public School, Sector 41 and Sports Complex Sector 46 claimed trophies in the boys and girls sections in the Chandigarh sub-junior volleyball championship which concluded at Shivalik School here today.SPS-41 made a short work of Coaching Club Sector 7, 15-8, 15-11, 15-10 while Sports Complex-46 scored an exciting 14-16, 15-9, 17-15, 3-15, 15-12 win over Coaching Centre, Sector 18, to wear the girls crown.
In the boys final SPS-41 spikers combined well to outclass their opponents, who faltered at the crucial juncture. Sunil and Surjit spiked hard to rattle the CC-7 defence while Anil and Vastav did excellent job at the net.
For CC-7 Digvijay and Ishwar played well.
Earlier in the semifinals, CC-7 beat SGGS-35, 15-6, 15-4, 15-6 while SPS-41 registered a 15-6, 15-1, 15-3 victory over Govt Model High School-26.
The most exciting match of the day, however, was the girls final. Sports Complex-46 girls down by a game (14-16) bounced back on the track to win the next two games (15-9, 17-15). However, Coaching Centre-18 spikers pocketed the fourth game (15-3) to level the score 2-2. In the decider both the teams were neck and neck but Rakhi, Monika and Shashi coordinated well for Sport Complex-46, to snatch an exciting 15-12 victory to wrap up the contest. Poonam played well for CC-18.
In the semifinals, CC-18 beat GMHS-19, 15-10, 15-7, 15-8 while SC-46 defeated GGSS-8, 15-10, 15-12, 6-15, 15-3.
DS Bedi, Principal, Shivalik Public School gave away the prizes to the teams.
