Mumbai, Oct 23: Crime Branch officers of Thane police nabbed a prisoner from the Andharwadi jail in Kalyan on Thursday, over a year and half after he had escaped.Zakir Hussain Ansari of Bhiwandi had made good his escape on April 5, 1997 posing as another inmate Zakir Sadiq Ali who was to be released on that day. He along with his associates was involved in a number of thefts and robberies, the police said.
Acting on a tip-off, the police trapped Zakir Hussain in Rabodi and recovered a knife and a case of escape from jail with the Bazar Peth police in Kalyan. The police team comprised DCP (crime) Ashok Divre, ACP (crime) Lalit Godbole and several PIs and PSIs of the branch.
