CHENNAI, Oct 23: Former Indian Bank chairman M Gopalakrishnan was today summoned to appear in a special CBI court on November 18 in the first case relating to the 'Indian bank scam' in which the bank suffered a loss of Rs 3.26 crore.The judge, S S P Dharwesh, also issued summons to the bank's former zonal manager, A V Shanmughasundaram, former chief manager of the bank's Alwarpet branch, K A Sundaramurthy, managing director of Akilam Constructions Private Ltd (ACPL) and K Ananthanpillai, proprietor of Allengar Constructions and Allengar Foundations to appear on the same day.
According to the CBI charge sheet, which cites Gopalakrishnan as the prime accused, the bank had extended overdraft (OD) facilities up to Rs five crore to ACPL without insisting on collateral security for developing real estate.
The CBI contended that Rs 2.86 of the Rs 3.26 crore sanctioned as OD was transferred to Allengar Foundations to close its outstanding balance with `Indian Bank Housing Limited'.
