Jain cruises into semi-finals

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Mumbai, Oct 23: Abhimanyu Jain swept into the semi-finals of the under-16 boys' section in the WMI Cranes Little Masters Junior Indian Open Squash Tournament today.

The Ajmer based Jain beat Auloke Mathur 9-2, 8-10, 9-3, 9-0 in the quarter-finals at the Willingdon Sports Club to set up a semi-final clash against top seed Junaid Nathani. Earlier, Jain fought back from a 1-2 deficit to topple Wong Kim Lee 9-6, 8-10, 7-9, 9-4, 9-4 in the pre-quarters.

Nathani walloped Vijay Jangra 9-1, 9-5, 10-8 in the quarters to join Mahesh Verma and Amjad Khan in the last four.

Amit Pal Singh was forced to concede his under-19 quarter-final match against Bikram Uberoi following an injury. Singh, 18, collided with Uberoi and injured his shoulder which caused his withdrawal. The medical report suggests surgery which may rule the Sardar out for at least a couple of weeks.

Unseeded Supriya Balsekar upset fourth seed Sally Looi of Malaysia in a close under-14 girls' quarter-final match 5-9, 9-4, 3-9, 9-7,9-7.
