CHANDIGARH, Oct 23: A meeting of the some members of senate and syndicate today alleged that lodging of an FIR against a member of the university syndicate has been done "with an ulterior motive to gain political mileage".In a joint press statement, 14 members of the senate and syndicate said it had been done to "serve the vested interests deeply entrenched in the university". Earlier, an FIR had been lodged against Rajinder Kumar Deepa, a member of the university executive body, the syndicate, for allegedly slapping the personal staff of the office of the Vice-Chancellor. The incident happened five weeks ago.
Interestingly, the issue had been amicable resolved following the intervention of the university authorities including the Dean, University Instructions, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, and the Finance and Development Officer. The meeting which was chaired by Kehar Singh, a university fellow appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to take appropriate steps to maintain and strengthen the environment of congeniality and trust.
Meanwhile the president of the Punjab University Non Teaching Employees Federation, Dharam Paul Sharma while expressing shock at the developments stated that their federation was not a party at the time of settlement of the dispute. The case was not of concern to their federation and they were not involved during the time of investigation of the issue.
