NEW DELHI, October 23: Modern School (Vasant Vihar) defeated Shri Ram School 2-1 to win the CSKM all-India inter-school tennis championships here today.In a see-saw final, Shravin Mittal of Modern School overwhelmed favourite Shravan Gulati 6-2, 6-4. The left-handed Mittal played an exceedingly consistent game to tire out Gulati to provide Modern School with the vital 1-0 lead.
The second singles between Sahil Vasudeva of Shri Ram School and Abhinav Grover was a tight one with both playing excellent tennis. Vasdeva won the first game 7-5 but lost the second at 5-7 before regrouped himself to take the game 6-4 to draw parity.
In a tense doubles that followed, the Modern School combine of Shravin Mittal and Abhinav Grover struggled a bit as their rivals Sahil Vasudeva and Shravan Gulati held on to tie at 3-3. But the Modern duo ran away with the first set 6-3 in just 40 minutes.
In the second set, the Shri Ram School boys ran up a comfortable lead of 4-1 but their complacency undid their gameplane as the Modern boys pulled up their socks to level at 4-4. From then onwards, it was the Modern duo who sensed a victory and without conceding a game took the set at 6-4.
