Telecom unions threaten to go on strike

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, Oct 25: Five telecom unions have threatened to go on a day's `token strike' on November 12 in protest against the corporatisation of the telecom department.

``The proposed corporatisation as being dictated by IMF and World Bank would ultimately lead to privatisation of the department which will be against the interest of employees,'' the union leaders told reporters. Over two lakh employees across the country will join the token strike, they claimed, adding the government by its decision would hand over assets of more than Rs 60,000 crore to corporations ``which will finally be grabbed by private companies''.
