Mahuva police seize molasses
Surat: The Mahuva police of the district, in a surprise raid on Saturday, seized molasses used for manufacturing liquor and arrested three people in this connection. According to the district police, Karamsinh Vasava, Soma Ramji Vasava and Dinu Halpati, all residents of different villages in Surat district, were arrested with 56 tins of molasses worth Rs 61,000, after the police intercepted them at Char Rasta on the Bardoli-Mahuva State highway. The police also seized the truck (GJ 3 V 7288) worth Rs 3.50 lakhs that was used for transporting the molasses. Cases have been registered against the accused and are being investigated, the police added.Kits distributed
The Dr Hegdewar Smruti Sewa Samiti of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday distributed more than 5000 kits including food, clothing and medicines to people affected due to the recent floods. Police Commissioner Maniram remained present at the function held at Katargam and Ved Road. Besides these areas, the charitable trust also distributed kits in the Rander and Adajan areas of the city. According to a release, the affected families were identified after volunteers personally visited the areas and made an assessment of their losses. Similar distribution programmes would continue on Monday, a release issued by the city unit of the RSS stated.
Contests held
The district information department of the Dangs, as part of the State government schemes to provide education to all youths, conducted a district-level essay and elocution contest at the Government College, Ahwa, where students from almost all schools and colleges of the district participated. Held in stages, winners of schools and colleges took part in the district-level competition, where the district administration gave away prizes to winners, a statement issued said. Six students each from secondary, higher secondary and college were given cash prizes amounting to Rs 7,400. Newly appointed Assistant Deputy Director of Information L R Rajput was also felicitated at the awards ceremony, a release stated.
Delay flayed
Vadodara: Condemning the State government for delaying admissions to professional colleges, a section of medical and engineering students formed a human chain at the Sardar Patel Statue at Sayajigunj on Sunday evening. They carried placards, shouted slogans against the official authorities and also sang devotional songs. Student representatives told Express Newsline that they would organise a symbolic ``begging'' session, call on members of the assembly and submit a memorandum on Monday.
Conference
The 72nd annual conference of World Association of Detectives Inc (WAD), an international body of private security and detective agencies, concluded at Goa recently. According to Vadodara-based Security and Crime Investigating International director S C Shukla, whose agency was one of the sponsors of the meet, 70 senior personalities from USA, United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany and various Asian countries attended the conference. The conference covered a wide-range of subjects, including crime investigation, security, forensic science, ballistics, computer security, industrial fires, while collar crime, drugs and terrorism and bomb threats, Shukla said.
