Patel puts off JDLP meet; truce talks on
Karnataka Chief Minister J H Patel, facing a challenge to his leadership within the ruling Janata Dal, has ruled out postponement of the legislature session scheduled to begin from October 29, 1998. Patel also announced that the much sought after Janata Dal Legislature Party (JDLP) meeting would be held only after the Assembly session.

BJD suspends 6 leaders for anti-party work
In a bid to quell dissent in the party, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik on Saturday suspended six district-level functionaries of Salipur, Ersama and Jagatsinghpur for anti-party activities.

Congress can't face BJP alone: Naidu
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Venkaiah Naidu has said that the Congress had developed cold feet in the states going to the polls next month. He added that the Congress is desperately looking for allies as it was not in a position to face the BJP alone.
