NEW DELHI, Oct 26: A senior director of Modi Rubber has been arrested by Delhi police on charges of extortion and intimidation through underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's alleged frontman Romesh Sharma, who was recently nabbed in the city.Ashok Malik was arrested yesterday by the South district police for allegedly intimidating his cousin Romesh Malik to vacate his posh Chirag Enclave property, police sources said, adding Sharma used his Dubai connections to allegedly threaten Malik at his cousin's behest.
Ashok Malik has been remanded to 14 days' judicial custody while another case of intimidation has been registered against Sharma, the sources said.
Romesh Malik had registered a case at the Lajpat Nagar police station in August against his cousin, who he alleged was using his underworld connections to force him to vacate his property.
The sources said Sharma had allegedly contacted Ibrahim's henchman Abu Salem to threaten Malik, who was subsequently warned of ``dire consequences'' if he failed tovacate the property.
Police last week arrested Sharma, a property dealer-turned-politician, for allegedly grabbing prime properties across the Capital, which were also used by Ibrahim to set up base in Delhi.
