The convoy's first stop was Lok Nayak Hospital at the Delhi Gate crossing. The policemen on duty were apparently expecting their VIP visitor. But the hospital authorities were not. Lights, camera, action...

Draped in a bright pink saree, the CM, very business-like, headed straight for the emergency ward. Doctors on duty and the patients were clearly surprised to see her. The litany soon began. Swaraj lent them a patient ear. Not surprisingly, shortages was the nub of the complaints. ``I understand the problems,'' she told her audience, ``and that is why I am here to solve them. I shall try mybest to provide you better facilities.''

Someone complained to the Chief Minister about a case of a body that was wrongly sent for postmortem... A lady surgeon was at sixes and sevens when asked the number of beds available in the ward... Swaraj left after patting the staff ``for working under constraints.''

The next three stops of her convoy were the Chandni Chowk, Delhi railway station and the ISBT police post. The policemen received the Chief Minister with salutes and prompt replies to her queries. Police Commissioner was quick to respond to the uninterrupted flow of the Chief Minister's questions. ``What is your staff strength here? What are your crime figures? Which hours of the day has the highest incidence of crime?'' The questions were not very dissimilar at every halt.

After the inspection of the police stations, Swaraj decided to visit the Delhi-UP border after a brief stopover at the Civil Lines DVB complaint station. The duty officers there were asleep. The gates of the complaint center wereunlocked when the CM's arrival was announced. The Chief Minister inspected the complaint register.

Heavy traffic and bumpy roads en route to the Loni Border slowed the convoy to a crawl at times. Swaraj stopped at the Nand Nagri checkpost where she inquired about the registration policy of the vehicles entering the city. Commissioner Singh informed her that ``unless there is a particular vehicle that the police were alerted to look out for, the checkpost does not note each vehicle number crossing the border.''

Talking to the Press at her 8, Tees January Marg home exactly two hours after setting out on night patrol, Swaraj said she was ``happy with the response today.''
